Common Footprint - Performance Studies

Technical Research

Three studies have been conducted to date, testing the Corrugated Common Footprint's performance in comparison to RPCs and to traditional corrugated packaging. The studies were conducted by the University of California-Davis, and jointly sponsored by the corrugated industry and the Reusable Pallet & Crate Coalition (RPCC). Cooling rates, shipping density and protective qualities were measured for shipping grapes, tree fruit and strawberries in corrugated vs. RPCs.

In each case, the Corrugated Common Footprint performed at least as well as, or better than, RPCs.

Commodity

Corrugated Common Footprint...

Grapes
  • Allowed 6% larger payload of fruit
  • Cooled at the same rate
  • Showed no difference in moisture loss
Tree Fruit
  • Cooled slightly slower, but faster than the traditional 8-down corrugated box
  • Generated significantly less bruising
  • Allowed a 9% larger payload of fruit
Strawberries
  • Allowed an 11% larger payload of fruit
  • Cooled at the same rate
  • Generated significantly less bruising

...than RPCs.
